Coach Dabo Swinney’s Clemson football team fought through a wild weather delay to beat Bill Belichick’s North Carolina football team 28-20 in Week 3 action. Freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds filled in for starter Chris Vizzina, who missed the game due to a lower left elbow injury.

Reynolds had a solid performance for coach Swinney’s team, completing 20-of-29 passes for 215 yards, a touchdown and an interception as the Tigers defeated Belichick’s previously undefeated Tar Heels. After the game, fans began talking up the embattled Clemson coach in celebration.

“Dabo Swinney baby!!!!” one fan exclaimed after the win.

“Dabo Swinney and his staff did a great job of getting players ready coming out of the break,” another said after the Tigers came back from down 17-6 at halftime.

“That’s a hell of a lot closer to a Dabo Swinney squad,” another said, recalling vintage Clemson teams.

“Oh how awesome to shut people up on Dabo Swinney,” another added. “After a long lightning delay Clemson comes from behind to beat the great Bill Belichick!! Love it!”

Swinney praised Reynolds after the game, saying the freshman “absolutely” has what it takes to start for his team going forward. Prior to the game, he compared Reynolds to Tim Tebow in surprising comments.

Clemson outgained Belichick’s Tar Heels 401 yards to 349 and will now charge forward into tougher challenges with the No. 5 Miami Hurricanes on deck for October 3, followed by a stretch of games against four unranked teams. Swinney hasn’t exactly thrived in the post-NIL era, but fans are forgiving of a coach with two national titles to his name, particularly after a big win.
