THE ROAR: Ole Miss stands tall in Kiffin’s return to Oxford

The college football game everyone was talking about happened in Oxford, Mississippi tonight.
Ole Miss jumped out to a 24-7 lead before LSU ripped off 17 straight, but a huge touchdown late from Trinidad Chambliss sealed the fate for the Rebels in a 32-24 win over LSU.
HOW WE GOT HERE:
The game started with both defenses getting quick stops. On the second Ole Miss possession, Trinidad Chambliss led the Rebels on a 12-play, 59-yard drive that eventually stalled and finished with a 37-yard field goal from Lucas Carneiro.
After another LSU three-and-out, the Rebels once again diced through the Tigers’ defense, going 78 yards on six plays before finding the end zone for the first time on a five-yard rush from Kewan Lacy to extend the lead to 10-0.
Following the third consecutive stop from the Ole Miss defense, John David Baker’s offense would once again find the end zone as the Rebels drove 92 yards downfield and capped it with a 21-yard strike from Chambliss to Traylon Ray to make it 17-0.
LSU would finally answer and get on the board with a much-needed touchdown after a suffocating 75-yard drive that took 17 plays and nearly eight minutes before Dilin Jones punched it in to make it 17-7, giving LSU some hope inside of two minutes with the Tigers getting the ball back after the half.
But Chambliss saw blood in the water.
The Heisman hopeful quickly brought Ole Miss 75 yards down the field and once again found the end zone, this time connecting with Deuce Alexander to make it 24-7 at the break.
LSU opened the third quarter with a three-and-out, but the defense got a huge interception after a third-down pass rush forced Chambliss into a mistake. Then, Sam Leavitt led the Tigers into the end zone in large part due to his running ability as LSU cut the lead to 24-14 early in the third.
The Tigers’ defense got another stop thanks to a missed field goal and gave the offense the ball with great field position. LSU then went 65 yards on seven plays as Sam Leavitt threw a beautiful back shoulder ball to former Ole Miss receiver Winston Watkins Jr. for the 22-yard score to make it 24-21.
After another big stop that was led by a Ty Benefield sack, LSU went down the field for the third time in the half. However, a scary moment as Trey’Dez Green made a big play down the field but got a helmet to the knee and couldn’t walk off it. He was helped to the sidelines, but it was obvious that he was in serious pain. The drive would stall, but LSU tied it with a 23-yard field goal from Scott Storcyzk.
The Ole Miss offense got a big drive late in the fourth, going 75 yards over 13 plays that capped off with a huge read option fake by Chambliss, and he went into the end zone to take the 30-24 lead. After two offsides calls against LSU, the Rebels were able to get the two-point conversion to make it 32-24 with six minutes left.
LSU was able to get down to the five-yard line inside the two-minute warning, but they were stopped by the Ole Miss defense, and the Rebels picked up a huge 32-24 win.
