Penn State football team’s report card vs. Buffalo

STATE COLLEGE – Grading the Penn State football team on its 55-13 win over Buffalo Saturday at Beaver Stadium:

Quarterbacks

B: Rocco Becht dropped a snap and took a sack inside the red zone instead of throwing a pass out of bounds. He was very good other than that.

Running backs

A: Quinton Martin Jr., Cam Wallace, James Peoples and Carson Hansen combined for 273 yards on 31 carries (8.8 average) and four TDs.

Receivers

A: Koby Howard and Chase Sowell made spectacular catches; Howard put away Buffalo with a 70-yard TD reception.

Offensive linemen

A: They did what they had to do against an inferior opponent, dominating the line of scrimmage in the run and pass games.

Defensive linemen

A: Alexander McPherson, Yvan Kemajou and Caleb Bacon were the most active guys and helped hold Buffalo to 3.0 yards per carry.

Linebackers

A: The most positive sign was that Alex Tatsch came off the bench and gave quality minutes with a tackle for loss, a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry.

Defensive backs

A: The best position group in the first three games limited Buffalo to 10-of-25 passing for 60 yards and no completion longer than 16 yards.

Special teams

A: Zay Robinson, who had 109 punt return yards, has a chance to be Penn State’s most dynamic returner in a long while.

Coaches

B: Penn State was sloppy at times, committing a season-high eight penalties for 96 yards and twice failing to take advantage of great field position.
