Northwestern football moved to 2-0 on the season with a 41-7 win over the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday night, the team's final game on the shores of Lake Michigan for the foreseeable future. 

The Wildcats will face the defending national champion Indiana Hoosiers next week followed by a game against Penn State on Oct. 2 to bring in a new era of football at the new Ryan Field in Evanston, Ill. 

Before the Wildcats celebrated coach David Braun's contract extension to 2031 with a big Saturday night win, their Class of 2027 quarterback commit, RJ Day (son of Ohio State coach Ryan Day) spoke excitedly about his future team in a TV interview. 

RJ Day 'Super Excited' About Future

RJ Day has been on the college football radar screen for quite some time due to his famous last name. Northwestern won out for the services of the 5-foot-11, 203 pound three-star prospect and now he is getting excited. 

"Oh, I'm super excited. Northwestern is awesome, coach (David) Braun, coach (Chip) Kelly, coach (Jerry) Neuheisel, I couldn't be more excited to go play for them," RJ Day said to Jenny Taft on a Fox broadcast of Ohio State vs. Kent State. 

Day was asked about playing against his dad but didn't want to get ahead of himself. 

"Yeah, you know, I don't know what I'll do when that week comes, but you can't make any game bigger than it is, and I'm sure that the coaches will put us in a great position whenever that time comes." 

Ohio State wound up winning Saturday's game by a score of 59-3 over in-state foe Kent State, blitzing the Golden Flashes with 527 yards of total offense.

RJ Day has a solid foundation to build off of as a longtime Buckeyes watcher and understudy, soon it will be time to put it to the test with a whole different program that is now home to a familiar face among Buckeyes fans. 

Ohio State Ties Run Deep 

Kelly coached Ryan Day's Ohio State offense to the 2024-25 national championship before leaving for the Las Vegas Raiders and returning to the college game with Northwestern. 

Next season, he will have a chance to work with RJ Day in what could be a fruitful partnership for the Wildcats. Kelly's offenses are typically built on precision passing and place a premium on accuracy, which RJ Day is working to improve as his high school football career winds down.

Northwestern quarterback Aidan Chiles' 17-for-22, 241-yard, three touchdown performance against Colorado on Saturday night shows that there is a blueprint for RJ Day to succeed in a Wildcats offense.

RJ Day likely won't start in his first year on campus with the Wildcats, but the foundation is in place for him to thrive in Evanston, which is fast becoming a compelling destination for burgeoning college football talents.
