'Everybody will quit on us': Texas A&M HC says team must fight adversity

After the Aggies' shocking upset loss to the Kentucky Wildcats at Kyle Field on Saturday, head coach Mike Elko says his team must man up moving forward.

Texas A&M's performance against Will Stein's squad was the worst outing of the Elko era. The Aggies allowed 408 yards of total offense in the first loss to an unranked opponent at home under the third-year head coach's watchful eye.

Much of that fell on the shoulders of junior quarterback Marcel Reed, who had his most disappointing performance of his collegiate career thus far. Despite throwing for 236 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 80 yards and a score on the ground, Reed threw two interceptions and was tremendously inconsistent. The Wildcats drew up pressure and made Reed uncomfortable, which also caused much trouble for the Aggie offensive line.

"Man up. You figure out what you are about during adversity. Everybody will quit on us. That's how this thing works. It's never been about everybody. It's about people inside that locker room."

Needless to say, Week 3 in College Station is one that Texas A&M wants to forget. For Elko and company, the message moving forward is simple — man up, fight through the adversity and get ready to play next Saturday.

We will learn more about the questions raised after the loss to the Wildcats as the Aggies travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Saturday to face Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers, who are coming off a 32-24 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels. It will be a night game against one of the most motivated and angry teams in football, and Elko must prepare for it.

Texas A&M still has much to play for this season, but they face a gauntlet of challenges ahead to turn things around.
