A dominant effort in the run game led UCF to a 44-30 victory on Saturday night over Georgia State, with the Knights rushing for 304 yards.

After a difficult offensive outing in the 12-7 loss against Pittsburgh, UCF's offensive line had a strong bounce-back performance, controlling the line of scrimmage and opening big gaps for the backfield to burst through.

Here are the biggest three takeaways from the Knights' offensive performance.

Big Play Watson 

Louisville transfer Duke Watson has been UCF's best offensive player to this point, showing home run ability on every touch.

After opening his UCF career with a 65-yard score, he found the endzone twice more on Saturday, rushing for 177 yards.

Watson got the majority of the work, but arguably needed more opportunities, as he ran for 12.6 yards per carry.

With starting quarterback Alonza Barnett III sidelined, head coach Scott Frost had a clear gameplan to pound the rock on the ground, with the Knights attempting just 17 passes.

Watson's big day allowed UCF to find some rhythm, and get backup quarterback Keyone Jenkins acclimated.

Jenkins Holds Up

Without Barnett, there were some questions about who would get the starting role until he is healthy.

Jenkins, the most experienced option, earned the job, and held up despite limited opportunities in the passing game.

The former FIU gunslinger threw for one touchdown and rushed for two more, while extending plays with his legs.

Frost confirmed that Jenkins will continue to get the starting reps going forward, as Barnett will be sidelined for UCF's Big 12 Opener against TCU.

The Horned Frogs have been stout against the run thus far, allowing under 80 rushing yards per game to their opponents.

Jenkins will likely need to open it up and throw it more often next weekend.

Wide Receiver Depth

After nine different UCF pass catchers caught a pass through the first two games, only four recorded a reception on Saturday.

But, multiple players had near big-time opportunities, including freshman wideout Tyren Hornes who nearly connected with Jenkins for a 60+ yard score.

Sophomore wideout Waden Charles continues to look like he has taken a big step in his second season with the program, hauling in three catches for 46 yards and his second career touchdown.

Heading into this season, Charles had talked about wanting to be a leader in the receiving room, and carry over his strong freshman campaign into Year 2.

With Duane Thomas Jr. likely returning from injury next week, UCF's depth will only improve.
