Georgia Tech QB Haynes King Announces Career News Before Georgia Game

Haynes King and the No. 23 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets face the No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs in Week 14. It will be the 117th time the two have faced off in this historic rivalry, with the Bulldogs holding a 72-39-5 all-time lead.

At 9-2, much of Georgia Tech’s success can be attributed to King. He has completed 211 of 294 passes for 2,516 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also has rushed for 883 yards and 15 touchdowns on 168 carries.

Going into Week 14, the Yellow Jackets’ national championship hopes are extremely thin. ESPN’s FPI gives them just a 0.3% chance to make the College Football Playoff. Earning bragging rights over Georgia is still an exciting opportunity, though.

King’s popularity continues to grow among Georgia Tech fans as he aims to lead the program to a double-digit win season for the first time since 2014. That has brought several exciting Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities.

On Wednesday, days before playing the Bulldogs, King announced a new NIL partnership with Whataburger.

“Fuel up for rivalry week!” he wrote in an Instagram post. “This Friday from 7-11 a.m., stop by in store or in the drive thru to score a FREE Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit at all Whataburger locations in Georgia. #ad.”

Whataburger adds to a growing list of companies King has partnered with. Other deals include Raising Cane’s, Adidas, Powerade and Onward Reserve.

On3 estimates that the quarterback’s NIL valuation to be at $1.7 million, which is tied for the 25th highest in college football. He’s the only player for Georgia Tech with a NIL valuation over $1 million, with the next closest being offensive lineman Keylan Rutledge ($695,000).

This is also King’s final year of eligibility, meaning time is running out to take advantage of more deals while playing for the Yellow Jackets.

He and Georgia Tech are listed as 13.5-point underdogs against Georgia, according to ESPN BET. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m. ET Friday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, airing on ABC.
