Oklahoma Sooners football fans should get a game ball for Saturday night's 14-6 win over New Mexico.

Quarterback John Mateer threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Sategna III, who was behind the Lobos' secondary. Expect he didn't notice he was open until the crowd called him out. That score ended up being the cushion as No. 24 Oklahoma hung on for the win over the Lobos.

A strange sequence of events for the Sooners, which Mateer recalled in his post-game press conference. He said that he initially didn't see Sategna on the play. Thanks to the faithful at Memorial Stadium, Mateer made the unexpected read on the play.

"I was late to it, I looked left and I kind of skipped over to the third read and I kind of heard everybody screaming and I was like, 'well, something must be going on' and Isaiah puts his hand up — I'm serious — he puts his hand up and I see him," Mateer said.

It's rare for a crowd to be so quiet that getting louder can grab a quarterback's attention. Especially in a stadium where fans were once so loud they didn't noice an earthquake. Mateer was scanning the field and somehow didn't see Sategna. In the end, Oklahoma got some breathing room against a massive underdog and the eventual win.

This was a bounce back from the 17-10 loss to Michigan in Week 2. Mateer finished the game 19-of-25 passing for 238 yards and two touchdowns to go along with two interceptions.
