College Football Bowl Projections Week 4: LSU vs. Ole Miss Rewrites the Postseason Picture

College football Week 3 is in the books, and boy, was it a good one. Now, we’re a quarter of the way through the regular season, and some days are half way (and more) to booking a place in the postseason party.

PFN’s latest college football bowl projections forecast which teams will make it to six wins, who they might face, and where they might play, powered by PFN’s College Football Playoff Meter (FPM).

The College Football Playoff first-round games will once again be held on campus and aren’t technically classified as bowl games. But for readers wondering where their favorite team ranks in our college football bowl projections, the Boise State Broncos, Alabama Crimson Tide, USC Trojans, and BYU Cougars are the teams to fall by the wayside before the quarterfinals.

Let’s talk about Lane Kiffin and LSU. The Week 3 defeat to the Ole Miss Rebels was a significant blow to the Tigers, and they also endured some injuries that could shape their season. However, their defense should give them a shot to make the College Football Playoff, and so should Sam Leavitt — as long as he eliminates the troughs that, right now, limit his ceiling.

On the flip side of that game, we learned that the rest of college football should be terrified of facing Ole Miss. Pete Golding’s team moves up to the fourth seed in our college football bowl projections, and there’s an argument to be made that they should be the number one seed.

Trinidad Chambliss is the quarterback who you’d hang your hat on to find a way to win any game. Can you say the same for Arch Manning? Our college football bowl projections see the Texas Longhorns trying to stop the Rebels in the Cotton Bowl, but Steve Sarkisian’s transfer portal-led offensive makeover can’t hold a candle to what Ole Miss has cooking right now.

We’ll find out for real what this matchup might hold when the two clash in Oxford on October 24.
