The No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs (3-0, 1-0 SEC) host the No. 24 Oklahoma Sooners (2-1, 0-0 SEC) in a critical SEC game for both teams. Entering the season, Oklahoma projected to be Georgia's toughest home game of the year, but that may no longer be the case after Oklahoma's recent offensive struggles.
The Sooners have averaged just 12.0 points per game over their last two contests (a 17-10 road loss at Michigan and a 14-6 home win over New Mexico. Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer has thrown three touchdowns and three interceptions over his past two contests.
Oklahoma's offense will have to be better if the Sooners want to keep pace with Georgia, who leads the country in scoring. However, Oklahoma's defense is stout and should be able to keep the Georgia offense in check.
"The way they go about their business, they are violent, they play hard," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said about Oklahoma's defense. "They play with a purpose, they are very intelligent. They know what you're doing as well as you know what you're doing.
"They do a great job of formation and things, and understanding what your tendencies are. They play really hard. You get good, talented players playing with fundamentals. They don't get blocked. They might get blocked; they don't stay blocked, but they get off blocks, and they're hard to block."
The Georgia-Oklahoma game will air on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 26. The ESPN commentator crew for the contest will be Bob Wischusen (play-by-play), Louis Riddick (analyst) and Stormy Buonantony (sideline).
This will be the first time Georgia has played Oklahoma since the Sooners joined the SEC. Georgia is 1-0 in series history with the Dawgs winning the only meeting back in 2017, which was Georgia's 54-48 double overtime win in the Rose Bowl.
