Nebraska football TE Carter Nelson to miss Michigan State game

Nebraska football tight end Carter Nelson has been ruled out for Saturday’s game against Michigan State. Matt Rhule confirmed this in his press conference on Monday afternoon.

Nelson caught one pass for six yards on Saturday in the team’s win over North Dakota. He suffered a leg injury in the second half when a teammate was blocked into him. That was his only catch of the season so far.

The Nebraska native caught two passes for 11 yards and returned a blocked punt for a three-yard touchdown last year against Michigan State.

This injury leaves a hole at tight end. Luke Lindenmeyer is expected to start, as he did last year. Beyond Lindenmeyer, freshman Luke Sorensen could also provide help in terms of depth.

Either way, this is unfortunate news. Nelson was a former four-star recruit in the 2024 class and came to the program with high potential. Hopefully, this injury is a small setback and not something more serious.
