The Florida football team is undefeated this season, under first-year head coach Jon Sumrall. Sumrall is getting a big compliment on Saturday from college football analyst Paul Finebaum. Finebaum is praising the Gators head coach, while taking a shot at another coach in the SEC.
“You have no idea how lucky you are. You have Jon Sumrall and not Lane Kiffin,” Finebaum said to Florida fans, per reporter Isaac Edelman.
Both Sumrall and Kiffin are first-year head coaches in 2026. While Sumrall leads the Gators, Kiffin is in charge at LSU. Kiffin joined LSU this season after a somewhat bitter parting with Ole Miss.

Before this season, Sumrall was head coach at Tulane. This season, he has the Gators ranked and undefeated. Florida has a big game on Saturday against Ole Miss.
Florida looks to stay undefeated on Saturday against Ole Miss
Florida’s offense has been spectacular this season. In each of their wins, the team has scored at least 44 points. Florida has victories this year over Auburn, Florida Atlantic and Campbell.
The Gators have a tough challenge on Saturday against Ole Miss. The Rebels have one of the top quarterbacks in the country in Trinidad Chambliss. Chambliss will need to carry quite a load on offense Saturday, as Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy is unlikely to play.
“Lacy, a junior, has 39 carries this season for 191 yards and four touchdowns. He suffered a thigh bruise that knocked him out of Ole Miss’ season-opening win over Louisville, but he returned the following week and rushed for a pair of touchdowns against Charlotte,” ESPN reported.
Florida meanwhile has an injury to star wide receiver Eric Singleton. Singleton is a game-time decision on Saturday, it was reported. He hasn’t played yet this season for the Gators.
Florida and Ole Miss play Saturday at 3:30 ET.
