Jeremiah Smith catches 72-yard bomb to put No. 7 Ohio State ahead 14-0 on Illinois

No. 7 Ohio State is off to an explosive start in its Big Ten opener versus Illinois with two touchdowns in its first two possessions, both scored by receiver Jeremiah Smith.

The second of those scores came in spectacular fashion on a 72-yard bomb from Julian Sayin to his top target.

Here's another look at Smith's second TD, an even better angle of him spinning Illinois defensive back Mac Resetich around, looking helpless.

Smith didn't score a touchdown last week against Kent State and made sure to get on the board with the Buckeyes' ninth play of the game. He finished off Ohio State's first series with a 7-yard TD catch from Sayin.

The junior sensation now has 5 TDs for the season. He came into Saturday's matchup with 21 receptions for 400 yards and has already added 4 catches for 123 yards against the Fighting Illini.

With his total thus far, Smith also became the first Ohio State receiver to ever get 3,000 yards in his career. He broke the Ohio State record for receiving yards in a career last week with his 85-yard performance. That put him at 2,958 yards, topping the previous mark set by Michael Jenkins with 2,898.
