Florida coach Jon Sumrall sends strong message to players before Ole Miss clash

Jon Sumrall knows there is a lot of stakes for the Florida Gators ahead of their ranked matchup against the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday afternoon.

Sumrall is going through first year as the Gators’ head coach. He looks to bring them back to serious postseason contention, aiming for the College Football Playoffs.

They are off to a great start, winning their first three games. They now gear up for a big clash against Ole Miss, who is coming off a strong win over the LSU Tigers. Sumrall was present at SEC Kickoff as the coach revealed the message he had for his players before the blockbuster matchup.

“I say this to our team almost daily. Good teams can be coach led. Great teams have to be player led,” Sumrall said, per SEC Network, ahead of the contest.

What lies ahead for Jon Sumrall and Florida

Jon Sumrall looks to make his way up the ranks as one of the best coaches in college football. He earned his stripes with the Tulane Green Wave by leading them to their CFP berth in 2025, hoping to do the same for the Gators this season and beyond.

Florida is off to a 3-0 start this season, blowing out the Florida Atlantic Owls (66-21) and Campbell Bison (52-3) before beating Auburn (44-39) on the road. As for Ole Miss, they began the year with a 3-0 record after taking down Louisville (41-38), dominating Charlotte (41-9), then getting a major 32-24 win over Lane Kiffin and LSU.

The No. 21 Gators will look forward to their next matchup, being at home. They host the No. 4 Rebels this weekend as kickoff commences on Sept. 26 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
