Texas football's Colin Simmons flagged for 'simulating using the restroom'

KNOXVILLE, TN – Here's a new one for the football officiating lexicon.

Texas' star defensive lineman Colin Simmons got flagged for a 15-yard penalty for "simulating using the restroom," as it was announced by the referee in Neyland Stadium.

Yes, you heard that correctly.

And that description accurately describes what Simmons did.

After sacking Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon, Simmons pretended to urinate on the field.

"Absolute idiotic move by Colin Simmons doing that," ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit said on the broadcast. "He's supposed to be one of the leaders of this defense…"

"Idiotic. It doesn't get much more vulgar either," Chris Fowler added.

This isn't the first time a college football player has been flagged for pretending to pee on the field. In the 2019 Egg Bowl, Mississippi's Elijah Moore got flagged for pretending to pee like a dog. The penalty influenced the outcome of the game. Ole Miss lost, and coach Matt Luke was subsequently fired.

Simmons' penalty resulted in a first down for Tennessee.

Instead of a facing a fourth-and-long after Simmons' sack, Tennessee moved the chains on the penalty, while Vols fans must have been asking themselves: Did the ref just say that?

Yep, he did.

"Simulating using the restroom," a 15-yard penalty.
