Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith delivers Heisman Moment in epic Week 4 performance

One of the hottest Heisman Trophy candidates in college football unquestionably is Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. He has already set school records in less than 2.5 seasons and is off to an incredible start.
However, Ohio State’s Week 4 win over Illinois might be the game we look back on as Smith’s Heisman moment. There’s always one play or game with each Heisman winner when we can look back and say, “That was the moment he won it.”
Smith’s incredible season has been building momentum for weeks. He has eclipsed 80 receiving yards in each of his first four games. Saturday, though, was something different. It was a special performance from a special player.

Jeremiah Smith put up video game-like numbers Saturday afternoon. He recorded 12 receptions for 217 yards and an outstanding four touchdowns. The Buckeyes won 42-19 in what was Smith’s best career performance to date.

Smith’s Heisman Moment Performance
All three marks were career highs for Smith during his young Ohio State career. Entering the day, he had recorded 21 receptions for 400 yards and three touchdowns through three weeks.
In a matter of one afternoon, Smith surpassed some of those totals and nearly matched two others. Needless to say, his performance played a major role in Ohio State’s dominant victory.

Now, Ohio State has eight games remaining on its schedule, including five against current top-20 opponents. Three of those games will come on the road as the Buckeyes look to spark another championship run.
Ohio State went on an incredible run in 2024 before going one-and-done in the playoffs last year. Smith played an instrumental role in helping the Buckeyes win the national championship as a freshman.
Perhaps Smith can once again become the reason Ohio State soars to new heights as it pursues a second College Football Playoff title in three years.
