Notre Dame running back Aneyas Williams had a bit of a rough week against Michigan State — he was flagged for celebrating a touchdown excessively and then spent a lot of the remainder of the game watching from the bench.

Whether that was punishment for the penalty or because backup Nolan James was playing well, or both, it led to some talk that perhaps James should supplant Williams. Indeed, James started against Purdue, though Williams has gotten more involved as the game has gone on.

That conversation might be on hold after Williams scored a touchdown against Purdue on a 22-yard touchdown run. That was Notre Dame's first run over 20 yards this season.

The TD run finished off a 4-play drive that covered 86 yards and took 1:22 off the clock.
