Eric Morris is reviving Oklahoma State football faster than fans could have realistically hoped for. Change continued to take shape in the program, as the Cowboys mercifully snapped their 18-game losing streak versus Big 12 competition on Saturday. Trailing undefeated West Virginia 21-13 in the third quarter, the Cowboys ignited and left Morgantown with a 41-24 win.
An upset victory over Oregon in Stillwater told everyone that this squad is no longer a punchline. Vanquishing a conference foe on the road sends a message that this group genuinely means business.
Oklahoma State (3-1) grabbed the lead with 2:40 left in the third quarter, courtesy of a 22-yard Caleb Hawkins rushing touchdown, and then outscored the Mountaineers 13-0 in the fourth. Hawkins had a monster night, running 31 times for 180 yards.

Drew Mestemaker impressed yet again, completing 20-of-27 passes for 389 yards and three TDs. The 6-foot-3 quarterback redeemed an interception that he tossed on the first drive of the second half and displayed outstanding chemistry with wide receiver Wyatt Young, who totaled eight receptions for 192 yards and a score. This Cowboys offensive trio, which followed Morris from North Texas, left a massive imprint in Milan Puskar Stadium.
And the defense clamped down in crunch time. Despite allowing a nauseating 335 rushing yards, Oklahoma State limited Michael Hawkins Jr. to 10-of-22 passing. Leveling up in the fourth quarter is the mark of a winning team, and that is all the Cowboys have done since Sept. 12.
There is still much to fix going into an Oct. 10 home matchup versus UCF (3-1), but Eric Morris has steered the ship away from the rocks and into steady waters. Stillwater is thanking the football gods for this man’s arrival.
