Florida cracks top 10 in Athlon Sports' rankings after Ole Miss win

Four weeks into the 2026 college football campaign, the Florida Gators are riding high on their first 4-0 start since 2019 following a signature victory over Ole Miss at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday.
Florida tied the program record for most points scored against an AP Poll top-five team against the Rebels, while notching their first win against a top-five opponent since 2020, snapping a 12-game losing streak. As a result, the Gators are now ranked eighth in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 with room to grow entering the thick of this fall's SEC schedule.
The Orange and Blue have also risen in the other rankings as well, jumping up 13 spots in Athlon Sports' college football top 25 rankings to No. 7 after Week 4.
"The Gators earned a signature victory under new coach Jon Sumrall by crushing Ole Miss 52-28," author Steven Lassan notes. "Led by running backs Jadan Baugh and Duke Clark, the ground game gashed the Rebels for 302 yards and six scores on the ground. Sumrall’s defense didn’t keep Ole Miss’ high-powered offense completely in check, but this unit forced two turnovers and made a couple of timely stops to help secure the victory."
Next up, Florida travels to Columbia to take on Missouri at Faurot Field on Saturday, Oct. 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on ABC.
SEC schools in Athlon Sports' college football rankings top 25
The Southeastern Conference has eight schools in Athlon Sports' top 25 after Week 4 — down one from last week — with Texas and Georgia still leading the way at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, along with Florida (No. 7), Alabama (No. 8), Ole Miss (No. 9) and LSU (No. 10) among the top 10. Mississippi State (No. 16) and Tennessee (No. 17) wrap up the remaining representatives among the top 25.
