The SEC was once known for being the best conference in college football. They are seeking to reclaim the crown after missing out on the last three national titles. 

The previous three national championship winners have come out of the Big Ten (Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio State). With a new age in college football, the SEC has lost its edge in college football. A conference known for championship dynasties no longer holds that title.

With 10 teams ranked in the AP top 25, the most of any conference, the SEC is looking to reign over college football once again. It isn't just the usual schools getting the most attention; this year the competition runs deep in the south.

Florida jumped up 13 spots from No. 21 to No. 8 after dominating Ole Miss coming off their get-back win over Lane Kiffin and LSU. Going into the season, the Gators were unranked and were not on anyone's radar. Now they are stealing the show. The disposal of Billy Napier and Dj Lagway proved to be critical to the Gators' success.

Mississippi State has also turned heads in the shortcoming of the season. They entered the rankings at No. 24 and moved up to No. 16. This adds to the depth of a conference looking to regain dominance.

Michigan won the national championship in 2023, Ohio State in 2024, and Indiana in 2025, their first one in school history. Having 10 of 16 teams ranked nationally could be the early indication of a different outcome in the postseason. 

The winner of the SEC may not be the typical Alabama or Georgia, but rather one of the other eight ranked teams (Mississippi State, Florida, Texas, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Kentucky, and LSU). While it is too early to declare a winner, the early-season success of these teams can't be ignored. 

The always tough SEC schedule will force these teams to play each other and settle the dust. Can this early season success translate into the CFP for the SEC? The SEC may not have the recent championship streak it once had, but September has provided a reminder of what makes the conference different: depth, unpredictability and seemingly endless competition. 

With 10 teams in the Top 25 and unexpected programs like Florida and Mississippi State stealing the spotlight, the SEC isn't simply trying to get back to the top. It's making sure everyone notices that it's still here.
