Notre Dame football turned heads by landing ex-Ohio State wide receiver Quincy Porter before the 2026 season. The prized former Buckeye never lined up for the opener against Wisconsin, though. And now coach Marcus Freeman and company won’t have Porter on the field after all.
Freeman announced Monday that the College Football Transfer Portal addition will miss the rest of the year. All following undergoing surgery for his knee before the season began.
Porter first handed Freeman and star quarterback CJ Carr a new 6-foot-3, 205-pound weapon to work with. The New Jersey native landed in South Bend after becoming lost in a deep wideout room out in Columbus. One that features preseason Heisman Trophy contender Jeremiah Smith leading the wideouts and already possessing one national title ring.

Ohio State deepened the WR room too through recruiting in adding five-star Chris Henry Jr. out of California powerhouse Mater Dei High of Santa Ana. But again, Porter ended up becoming an odd man out at OSU and entered the portal back in January.
Porter joined Smith as five-star signings for the Buckeyes. Although Porter represented the 2025 class and landed at OSU as the nation’s No. 4 WR per 247Sports. He emerged as a coveted new addition for the Fighting Irish during their preseason hype as a national title contender.
Notre Dame has turned to Jordan Faison to lead the team with 17 catches for 239 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Micah Gilbert is the receiving yards leader with 334 yards and two scores off 15 catches. Carr, meanwhile, has thrown for 963 yards, nine touchdowns and just one pick.
