LSU football broke back into the win column last week after dismantling Texas A&M 35-6. The victory marks the Tigers' first against a conference opponent in 2026 and first against a ranked opponent. It will be the first several top-25 tests head coach Lane Kiffin and his team face this season.

ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) rewarded LSU for its convincing victory against the Aggies. The purple and gold shot up to a 22.1 ranking, nearly five points better than Week 3 after a loss to Ole Miss. It ranks No. 8 in the country and No. 4 in the SEC. Georgia (26.3) shot up to No. 1 while Texas (26.9) and Alabama (24.6) are No. 4 and No. 6 overall, respectively.

FPI, according to ESPN, "measures a team's true strength on a net points scale; expected point margin vs. average opponent on a neutral field." The statistic is meant to strongly predict a team's performance by projecting how many points above or below average a team is.

To keep climbing the rankings, LSU must keep taking care of its own business and hope the teams it faces keep winning. The Aggies' win streak makes Saturday's result look more impressive. On the flip side, Ole Miss's success makes the Week 3 loss look better, as the Tigers kept the game close until the end.
