Friday’s Pittsburgh-Virginia Tech game sets unique record

Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech will meet at Lane Stadium on Friday, Oct. 2 for a massive game.

This game also will set a crazy record: it’s the first between two unranked 4-0 teams from major conferences in modern college football history, per Yahoo Sports.

Whoever wins will be 5-0 and likely ranked in the next AP poll, assuming at least some ranked teams will lose this week. The winner also will have the upper hand for at least the second spot in the ACC. Miami is likely to finish in first place, although the Hurricanes may face a test at 3-1 Clemson this week.

This will be the first time Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech play one another since the 2023 season, when the Hokies won 38-21. Virginia Tech leads the all-time series 12-11.

James Franklin is in his first season as the Hokies’ head coach, while Pat Narduzzi is in his 12th season as the Panthers’ head coach. Franklin holds a 3-1 all-time record against Narduzzi.

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. Mike Monaco and Jordan Rodgers will have the call.
