The Oregon football team has had some ups and downs already this season. Oregon bounced back from a loss to Oklahoma State, with a win over USC. ESPN commentator Kirk Herbstreit thinks the Ducks are back after that win over the Trojans.
“Oregon stock is going up,” Herbstreit posted to X, while praising the team on the ESPN show College GameDay Saturday.

The Ducks have a 3-1 record on the season. Oregon is 1-0 in the Big Ten, after defeating USC. The Oregon-USC game was an emotional one as Ducks quarterback Dante Moore suffered an injury.
Moore was hit by a USC defender, which was called for targeting. The USC player, Desman Stephens II, was ejected from the game. Lanning wants to move on from that incident.
“I’m done talking about this game, guys. Let’s move to this [coming game]. I appreciate all the questions about this, I get it, but we’re about to play a UCLA team that reminds me a lot of Indiana from last year, right? Great staff, and let’s just be honest, we’re not remotely close to what we need to be,” Lanning said, per 247 Sports. “We’re not remotely close. So no offense to the question, but like, we can’t spend a week talking about a game that happened last Saturday. And I get you guys didn’t get to see me on Monday, but let’s talk about the future here. And our team is a long ways away from being what we need to be.
“I’m not talking about that game anymore.”
Lanning has made his mark on the Oregon football program in just a few short years. His Ducks have reached the College Football Playoff in both 2024 and 2025. The team hasn’t made the national championship game, though, which is the goal for this year’s Oregon squad.
Oregon is next in action on October 10 against UCLA. It is a battle of two ranked teams.
