Georgia remains No. 1, Alabama moves up to No. 6, Missouri climbs to No. 13 and Florida drops back to No. 16 as the SEC takes center stage in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA Re-Rank 1-138.
The stage is set for a clash in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide will host the Bulldogs in a matchup that will shape the rest of the regular season and leave at most two unbeaten teams in the SEC, along with No. 2 Texas.
After a week off, the Longhorns are back on Saturday to face Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.
The most notable move in this week’s re-rank belongs to Missouri, which snapped a nine-game losing streak against ranked teams in beating Florida 45-17. That win sent the Tigers up 16 spots, the second-largest rise of any team inside this week’s top 55. (No. 37 Northwestern has the largest rise at 20 spots.)
It’s not all good news for the conference. The Gators went from a 10-spot jump after beating No. 7 Ole Miss to a 10-spot drop after the loss in Columbia. Mississippi State is down 11 to No. 27 after getting blown out at home by the Crimson Tide. Auburn also fell to No. 39 after losing to No. 17 Tennessee.
It could be worse. The Big Ten had another rough weekend, with No. 38 Michigan (down 11), No. 46 Penn State (down 14), No. 86 Illinois (down 32) and No. 87 Maryland (down 20) all dropping down the rankings.
