Colorado had a chance to keep things competitive against Texas Tech, but the game unraveled quickly in the fourth quarter.
The Buffaloes struggled to move the ball, gave away possession repeatedly, and watched a few questionable decisions make an already difficult afternoon even harder. One of those calls, in particular, left fans wondering what Colorado was trying to accomplish.
This play became even more interesting after Deion Sanders refused to point the finger anywhere else and accepted responsibility himself.

Facing fourth-and-7 from its own 46-yard line in the third quarter, Colorado tried to surprise the Red Raiders, but Texas Tech stopped the play for a 2-yard loss.
Sanders accepted responsibility afterward, saying, “I’m gonna take the blame for that foolishness.”
The admission came during a 29-7 defeat in which Colorado struggled badly after halftime, turning the ball over four times while Texas Tech scored 26 unanswered points. Sanders’ comment soon opened the door for fans to weigh in on both the decision and the larger problems surrounding Colorado.
His comment, though, opened the door for fans to weigh in on both the decision and the larger problems surrounding Colorado.
One wrote on X, “Deion is an [expletive], I actually like him, but he’s not a good HC.” The comment came as Colorado dropped its third straight game, adding to the criticism of Sanders’ decisions.
The fake punt itself became a major point of discussion because of where Colorado attempted it. Another fan wrote, “That fake punt call was more confusing than my sleep schedule.”
With the Buffaloes still on their own side of midfield, the failed gamble gave critics another decision to question.

Some fans, however, viewed Sanders’ admission as something he had little choice but to make. One bluntly responded, “He ain’t got no [expletive] choice.” The comment came as Colorado’s offensive problems continued to overshadow what had been a competitive opening half.
Another fan took a more measured approach, writing, “That fake punt call was rough though. Respect for owning it.”
That larger frustration surfaced in another reaction: “That’s been your whole tenure at Colorado, bud.”
Colorado entered their losing skid after a 2-0 start but now sits at 2-3, with the latest defeat adding to concerns about the team’s direction.

The criticism reached beyond the fake punt itself. One fan wrote, “He should take blame for this dumpster of a program too.”
Colorado managed only seven points against Texas Tech and committed four turnovers, including three interceptions by quarterback Isaac Wilson.
The Buffaloes now have a bye before facing Utah. For Sanders, the failed fake punt may have become the most visible example of a much larger problem facing Colorado.
