Michigan football is getting a break this week.
The Wolverines (3-2, 0-2 Big Ten) are on a bye week and do not have a game scheduled for Week 6. The Wolverines next play on Saturday, Oct. 17, in a matchup against the Penn State Nittany Lions at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor (3:30 p.m. ET, TV TBD).
The bye week could be coming at an optimal time with the Wolverines having dropped two straight Big Ten games to start the conference season. The most recent loss came to unranked Minnesota in a 20-14 road defeat that brought about several questions to a now-struggling team.
Michigan might use the time to examine everything – including quarterback Bryce Underwood, an anemic running attack and the coaching staff, which is coming under fire with first-year coach Kyle Whittingham at the helm.
The next two games might make-or-break Michigan's season, with a struggling but desperate Penn State squad coming to Ann Arbor before the Wolverines face the No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers. And they'll have an extra week to prepare for the Nittany Lions, who are hosing No. 17 USC on Saturday.
