Last year, Miami football came within a handful of plays of its first national championship since the 2001 season.

This season, the Hurricanes are trying to finish the job and take that all-important next step to a title. And so far, they're off to a pretty good start.

Miami has been dominant in its first five games of the 2026 season, with an undefeated record and an average margin of victory of 39.8 points. On the way to doing that, quarterback Darian Mensah (1,438 yards, 15 touchdowns, no interceptions) and wide receiver Malachi Toney (39 catches, 604 yards, six touchdowns) have emerged as two of the top contenders for the Heisman Trophy thanks to their outrageous early production.

This week, though coach Mario Cristobal's team will get some well-deserved rest.

Is Miami playing today?

Miami will be on bye during Week 6 of the 2026 college football season.

The Hurricanes will get a full two weeks of rest between their 41-13 trouncing of Clemson on Saturday, Oct. 3 and their Week 7 rivalry matchup against Florida State on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Miami has won its past two games against the Seminoles, including a deceptively close 28-22 victory in Tallahassee, Florida last season, a game in which the Hurricanes led 28-3 with 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
