Former Southern Door standout Taylor Schaefer returns to the state, commits to Wisconsin

MADISON – With one commitment, the Wisconsin football program added to the depth of its linebacker room and in-state recruiting base.
Taylor Schaefer, an inside linebacker from Iowa Central Community College, announced his commitment to the Badgers’ 2026 transfer portal class Sunday Nov. 30. He calls Brussels, Wisconsin, home and attended Southern Door High School.
Schaefer starred at Iowa Central as a sophomore this past season, ranking second in the National Junior College Athletic Association with 97 tackles while also making five sacks and one interception in 10 games.

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference named him its defensive player of the year.
Schaefer's stock increased during the last three weeks. During that time he has announced scholarship offers from (In order) Louisiana, Arkansas, Kentucky, Iowa State, Nebraska, Purdue, Minnesota, Colorado and Wisconsin.
Schaefer announced his commitment on X.
His news came one day after Jibriel Conde, a defensive lineman from Division II Grand Valley State committed to the Badgers for 2026.
