After opening the season with three consecutive wins, Penn State football has now slipped to a 3-3 record following its loss to USC. The three-game losing streak has put head coach Matt Campbell under growing pressure. However, amid this, Campbell recently made headlines with a pointed jab at Ohio State and Texas.

While addressing some of the nation’s top recruiting prospects, Campbell weighed in on Penn State’s unique football culture and the strong connection between the program and its surrounding community. In his remarks, he also appeared to take a shot at Columbus, Ohio, and Austin, Texas.

“One of the really cool things that we have here is you’re talking about one of the greatest communities in all of college football sport,” Campbell said via Nick Schultz of On3 reported. “Now, this is College Football Town, USA. We are not living in Austin, Texas or Columbus, Ohio, where you’re just part of it. We are it.

“So how you move and how you carry yourself, man, everywhere our guys go, everybody knows who they are.”

Campbell arrived in Happy Valley with expectations of keeping Penn State among college football’s top programs following James Franklin’s departure. However, six games into his first season, the Nittany Lions have fallen to 0-3 in conference play after losing three consecutive games.

The latest loss was particularly painful. Despite the passionate home crowd and the atmosphere surrounding one of the program’s biggest traditions, the Nittany Lions were unable to deliver a victory against USC.

Penn State quarterback Rocco Becht also struggled to win over fans with his performance during the difficult stretch. However, Campbell has continued to stand by his quarterback.

Now, Campbell and the Nittany Lions are preparing to face Michigan at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor in their upcoming game. It remains to be seen whether Campbell’s team can ultimately deliver the performance needed to get its season back on track.
