Mario Cristobal, Miami Hurricanes Dealt Unfortunate News Before Florida State Game

Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes received unfortunate news ahead of Saturday’s rivalry game against the Florida State Seminoles.

Four-star offensive lineman Jatori Williams announced Tuesday that he has decommitted from Miami, backing away from the pledge he made to the Hurricanes earlier this year. With that, Miami lost one of the top offensive linemen in their 2027 class.

Williams had originally committed to Alabama in September 2025 before decommitting on Dec. 1, 2025, and then switching to Miami last May. He later made an official visit in early June.

“I still have a lot of respect for Miami and am keeping that door open,” Williams said in his decommitment announcement.

Added Williams: “First, I want to thank the University of Miami coaching staff for the time, effort, and care they have shown me and my family throughout my recruitment. They have done an outstanding job recruiting me and building relationships with us, and I am truly grateful for their belief in me. After careful consideration, I have decided to decommit from the University of Miami and reopen my recruitment. This is a personal decision and does not reflect any disappointment with Miami or its coaching staff. They have been great to me and my family every step of the way. They are elite. As we approach signing day in December, I want to give myself the opportunity to fully evaluate my options and make the best decision for my future. Where I will be for the next 3-4 years is a very important decision for my family and I. It’s one that I do not take lightly.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this process. I appreciate your understanding.”

The timing delivers a blow to Cristobal’s class just before one of Miami’s biggest recruiting weekends of the season. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound prospect is ranked as the No. 8 interior offensive lineman and No. 114 overall player nationally in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 3 prospect in Alabama.

His departure leaves Miami with two offensive line commitments in the 2027 class: Four-star prospect Sean Tatum and three-star recruit Tyler Ford. The Hurricanes have the No. 4 recruiting class nationally and now have 20 commitments.

The No. 3 Hurricanes host the Seminoles on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
