As if things were not going in the wrong direction enough for Matt Campbell and Penn State, things just got a little worse this weekend. A day after seeing its losing streak reach four games following a loss to Michigan, Penn State has now seen one of its top recruits in the Class of 2027 flip his commitment.

Quarterback Will Wood, from Massachusetts, announced he ha has flipped his commitment from the Nittany Lions to Boston College, coached by former Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien. A desire to stay close to home is said to have played an impact in Wood's decision to flip from Penn State to Boston College.

"My belief in (coach) Bill O'Brien is extremely high," Wood said, according to Brian Dohn of 247Sports. "The proximity to home was a big deal for me. This is where I grew up. I grew up going to games there. It took me a while to be fully all in on it but I want to be part of the change of bringing back Boston College football. I have a ton of respect for Penn State. I love that staff but Boston is my home."

It may not be much of a coincidence that Penn State is mired in a dreadful four-game losing streak while Boston College has evened its record to 3-3 following a win this weekend over Pitt. According to recruiting reports, Wood remained in contact with O'Brien following his commitment to the Nittany Lions earlier this year.

Wood was Penn State's only quarterback commitment in the Class of 2027, so Campbell and his staff will have to scramble to find a QB to add to the class a couple of months before the early signing period begins.

Penn State's Class of 2027 currently ranks No. 20 in the updated composite team rankings from 247Sports, although we'll see if that changes in the coming days as the calculations are updated.
