Tennessee football danced to a 26-10 trouncing of Alabama on Saturday, literally. The Volunteers’ 61-year-old defensive coordinator Jim Knowles set the internet ablaze with getting his dance on in the locker room. But that rout left recruiting targets in a frenzy too.
So the Vols hosted some high-profile names on the College Football Recruiting trail in Knoxville. Handing coach Josh Heupel and company a chance to fuel intrigue among the blue chippers taking in Neyland Stadium.
Some 2028 talents now told Steve Wiltfong of On3/Rivals Sunday that Tennessee has piqued their interest. Starting with the outlet’s No. 4 ranked cornerback Tyler Boyd out of Carrollton, Georgia.

“What stands out the most about for playing for Coach Heupel is the culture that they’ve created here,” Boyd said to Wiltfong.
Boyd adds that watching Knowles’ defense go to work won him over.
“They are notorious for a winning season. Also they got a new defensive staff as well and they’re doing a great job leading the Vols and getting turnovers,” Boyd added.
Meanwhile, Rivals’ third-ranked offensive tackle for the 2028 class Cannon Zubeck of Shawnee Mission East High in Overland Park, Kansas called the atmosphere “electric.” But added how Knoxville gave him “One of the coolest Game Day experiences I have ever seen.”
Even local recruits like Westview High of Martin, Tennessee Asa Barnes loved the trip. Barnes, a 2027 verbal commit, claimed the crowd dictated the outcome of the game and called the environment “insane.”
So Tennessee is winning over major recruits out at Rocky Top. Now the Vols have jumped from 14th to No. 11 in the latest Top 25 polls.
