Neyland Stadium, home of the Tennessee Volunteers, is the loudest in college football. The numbers prove it.

The crowd noise in Knoxville played a big role in Saturday's upset victory over Alabama. At the 3:39 mark in the third quarter, after Tyree Weathersby sacked the quarterback Keel on Russell, Neyland Stadium erupted.

All 101,915 fans reached 130.3 decibels (the highest in college football history). It reached over 120 decibels on 105 separate occasions.

The booming crowd noise was a major factor in Alabama's offensive struggles all game.  Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell acknowledged the stadium environment. “It’s a tough environment,” Russell said.

Alabama was 2-of-13 on third downs, had three false starts, and two delay-of-game penalties. Keelon Russell was sacked five times, and the Tide offense committed three turnovers.

Head coach Josh Heupel showed love to his home crowd. “Just want to start by saying thanks to our fans,” Heupel said post-game. “I knew it would be, but elite atmosphere. Part of the game for four quarters. Phenomenal atmosphere. Great win."

“This is without a doubt the best fan base in America. They show up in an elite way every Saturday.”

The Knoxville crowd will need to be just as loud when the Volunteers host No. 12 Kentucky and No. 18 LSU in two big SEC showdowns with CFP implications.

No. 11 Tennessee travels to Columbia to take on South Carolina on Saturday, October 24 (3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
