Indiana vs Michigan Prediction: The Big Ten is There For the Taking

NCAAF College Football News, Photos, Stats, Scores, Schedule & Videos...

Indiana lost to Ohio State last Saturday – coming within a toe-tap of pulling off a thriller – but Buckeye quarterback Julian Sayin is out for at least the next several weeks, maybe longer.

Michigan lost tough games against Iowa and Minnesota, but a gut-check win over Penn State threw the season a lifeline.

Penn State tapped out long ago, Oregon isn’t anything special, and Iowa and UCLA, while great, still have to survive the second half of the Big Ten season.

The winner in Ann Arbor on Saturday has a chance to do some big things.

Indiana vs Michigan: Quick Hits

  • Michigan has winnable dates against Rutgers on the road before hosting Michigan State. And then comes the problem – at Oregon, UCLA, at Ohio State.
  • The Hoosiers get three of their last four games at home, getting Minnesota and USC next.
  • Indiana beat Michigan 20-15 in 2024. Before that, the Wolverines won 26 of the previous 27 games going back to 1987, with the lone loss in the shortened 2020 season.

Why Indiana Will Win

It’s crazy how this works. Had Nick Marsh been able to get one foot just a few inches over to one side, Indiana would be the unquestioned No. 1 team in both polls, and it would be ridiculous to give anyone else a single first-place vote. In other words, losing to Ohio State matters, of course, but … not really. The Hoosiers are still fantastic.

Michigan still can’t score. There were the 52 points hung up on UTEP, and last week’s 21-18 win over Penn State was the only other time the offense scored more than 19 points. It’s been a struggle, and the running game won’t get better against the fourth-best run defense in America.

Why Michigan Will Win

Could Tommy Carr really be the answer?

Yes, he’s legendary Lloyd Carr’s grandson, and yes, he’s the younger brother of Notre Dame’s CJ Carr, but he’s at Michigan. The guy is talented.

It’s too easy to suggest that Bryce Underwood was the reason Michigan’s offense was so bad, but he wasn’t getting the job done – to be nice about it. All Carr did was hit 5-of-7 passes for 47 yards along with a rushing score.

There’s a new vibe now on offense, and …

Indiana vs Michigan Prediction, Betting Lines

It gets said every week, and it’s important to keep bringing it up. The Michigan defense is fantastic. It’s fourth in the nation overall, fantastic against the run, and it’ll give the Indiana offense a whole slew of problems.

The Wolverine running game still won’t work, but Carr will be okay and the defense will keep this close until late.

Like the Northwestern, Nebraska, and Ohio State games, though, Indiana will have to come up big in the fourth quarter. Like it did against the Wildcats and Huskers, it will.
