All but one of Texas A&M’s 26 2026 commits will sign with the program during Wednesday’s Early Signing Day, as four-star tight end Evan Jacobson out of Waukee, Iowa, will sign with the Aggies early next year. After losing to rival Texas 27-17 last Friday, the Aggies are now No. 7 in updated CFP rankings, currently predicted to host No. 10 Notre Dame in the first round.

Until the Aggies find out their final CFP ranking and who they’ll face on Sunday morning, head coach Mike Elko and his staff are focused on Early Signing Day, as the program’s future roster will finally put pen to paper, led by five-star cornerback Brandon Arrington, who could vie for a starting spot as soon as next season.

However, the top-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, five-star defensive lineman Lamar Brown, has been committed to LSU since early July, and will reportedly not sign with the Tigers after Lane Kiffin was hired as the program’s newest head coach on Sunday morning.

While that likely isn’t the reason, this allows Texas A&M and several other programs to make their final pitches before National Signing Day on February 4. For those who have forgotten, Texas A&M was the other finalist to land Brown throughout the summer, as the Louisiana native, who has basically grown up and played his high school football in LSU’s backyard, took nearly a dozen visits to College Station over the last year and a half.

Kiffin, who has proven to be an elite recruiter in the transfer portal, now needs to prove his ability to utilize LSU’s standing as college football’s top destination for high school recruits. At the same time, NIL and development track will also play a significant role in fighting off the likes of Texas A&M, Miami, and others.

Joining fellow five-star DL commit Richard Anderson, Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman provided a quote that pretty much sums up in-season coaching changes and how they affect recruiting, focused on Brown and Anderson’s future with LSU.

“They’re staying committed to them, and they want to see how committed they are,” he continued. “They’re staying committed, but we don’t know what the future holds.”
