Needing to rebuild depth at the position and perhaps even strike gold heading into the 2026 season, Oklahoma’s coaching staff felt great on the first day of the early signing period, getting the signature of DeZephen Walker.
Walker, a four-star running back from Missouri, inked with the Sooners after committing to the program back in June. A 5-foot-11, 190-pound back, Walker carried scholarship offers from programs across the country. Most notably, Oklahoma earned his signing over Southeastern Conference rivals Tennessee, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Missouri, Georgia and others.
Walker, who hails from Peculiar, about 30 miles south of Kansas City, rates as the No. 6 player in the state of Missouri and the No. 28 running back in the country, per the 247Sports composite rankings. He joins Texan Jonathan Hatton Jr. as the other back in the commitment class.
The Sooners will likely return Tory Blaylock and Xavier Robinson from the rotation in 2026. But no other running back on the current roster has run for more than 67 yards. Blaylock and Robinson have each yet to eclipse the 500-yard mark.
Walker will have every chance to make his mark, accordingly.
