Oakland's Craig Tutt, a four-star safety, writes for The Tennessean on why he signed with Ole Miss football. Wyatt is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound athlete.
Choosing to commit to Ole Miss and continue my football career, that was one of the biggest and most meaningful decisions I’ve ever made. It wasn’t something I rushed into or took lightly. I wanted to be somewhere that felt like the right fit both on and off the field, and once I spent time around the coaches, the staff, and the community in Oxford, everything just made sense.
The first thing that stood out to me was the coaching staff. From the start, they treated me with respect, honesty, and genuine interest—not just as a player, but as a person. They made it clear that they believed in my potential and had a plan for my development. The way they coach, the energy they bring, and the standard they hold players to was exactly what I was looking for. You can tell they care about winning, but even more importantly, they care about helping their players grow, improve, and become better men. When a coaching staff believes in you and pushes you to be your best, it makes you want to work even harder.
The support staff also played a huge role in my decision. Everyone involved with the program — from the trainers to the academic support team to the strength coaches — showed me that Ole Miss is a place where players are surrounded by people who want to see them succeed. They create an environment where athletes can perform at their highest level while also staying balanced academically and mentally. Knowing I would have that kind of support made my decision much easier.
But one of the biggest reasons I committed was Oxford itself. The city has a special feeling to it. It’s a place where football isn’t just a sport — it’s a part of the community’s identity. The atmosphere on game days, the pride people have in the school, and the way everyone comes together makes you feel like you’re part of something bigger.
Oxford has a charm that’s hard to describe unless you’ve experienced it. It’s welcoming, energetic, and full of tradition. I could picture myself living there, growing there, and becoming the best version of myself there.
In the end, Ole Miss had everything I was looking for: a supportive coaching staff, a strong football culture, and a community that feels like home. I’m proud of my decision, and I’m excited for the opportunity to represent Ole Miss and continue my football journey in a place that feels right for me. This is only the beginning, and I’m ready for what comes next.
