FLOWOOD — Bralan Womack wants to get Mississippi State football back on the map.

The Hartfield Academy safety reflected on the Bulldogs’ No. 1 ranking in 2014, when quarterback Dak Prescott led Mississippi State to one of its best seasons in school history.

After Womack signed with Mississippi State on Dec. 3 in the school’s theater, he wants to be part of a program that can return to that standard.

“I’m playing for my home state,” Womack said. “Growing up, I watched Mississippi State be number one in the country. I watched Dak Prescott take over college football and I see KaMario Taylor doing that in the near future. I want to be a part of it. I want to leave a legacy. I want to leave a footprint in this state.”

Womack is a five-star recruit, the No. 2 player in Mississippi and No. 1 safety in the nation, according to 247Sports Composite.

The 6-foot, 195-pound safety hinted toward Mississippi State quarterback KaMario Taylor as a big reason for the commitment. Womack was committed to Auburn since Aug. 22, but flipped to the Bulldogs on Dec. 1 ahead of the early signing period.

“We have multiple conversations, and I played with him a couple of times,” Womack said. “We’re really close. I know what type of guy he is. He knows what type of guy I am. We’re competitors and we’re winners. We want to win. So that’s what we’re gonna do.”

He believes with Taylor, the Noxubee County alumnus, behind center, Mississippi State can compete in the SEC after going 1-15 in the last two seasons in conference play.

“I know it’s not perfect, and they’re not the best team in the country and Hartfield wasn’t the best when I got here,” he said. “But I just feel I can come in and contribute to the team, and I can leave my footprint in my state and represent my state.”

Hartifled Academy coach Craig Bowman lauded Womack’s time with the Hawks and believes Mississippi State is a perfect fit.

“I think it’ll be great,” Bowman said. “Coach (Jeff) Lebby spent a lot of time here and they spent a lot of time together. He was here right before we played in the state championship. They have a great relationship. I think he’s gonna do great things.”

Womack is a December grad and had a career 3,799 all-purpose yards, 44 touchdowns, 142 tackles and 16 interceptions. He was the 2024-25 Mississippi Gatorade player of the year, a 2025 Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen member and won two MAIS state titles with the Hawks.

Athlete Kaden Catchings signs with Michigan football

Linebacker Kaden Catchings was initially committed to USF but was hesitant about a potential coaching change. He then later committed to Michigan and signed with the Wolverines.

“I had a great feeling in my heart that the coaches are great for me,” he said. “So I wanted to go to a place where it felt like home, and I could develop amazingly.”

South Alabama football lands safety Teryn Green

Tery Green has been dreaming of playing college football since youth leagues. The defensive back got his wish when he signed with South Alabama.

“It’s great,” Green said. “Man, they had a great thing going on. I’m just ready to go and contribute and be a piece that can help the team.”
