Texas A&M (11-1, 7-1 SEC) ended the 2025 regular season with its best record since 1992. A significant reason the Aggies are a lock for the College Football Playoff, a first for the program, has been the play of star quarterback Marcel Reed, who, despite throwing for a mere 180 yards and two interceptions during last Friday’s loss to Texas, appeared in all 12 games, throwing for a career-high 2,932 yards and 25 touchdowns.
While head coach Mike Elko and his team wait and see where they’ll end up in the final College Football Playoff Rankings, which will be released on Sunday morning, Marcel Reed won’t win the Heisman Trophy, but is now a finalist to earn the Manning Award along with nine other candidates, including former Texas A&M and current Georgia Tech senior signal caller Haynes King.
Paired with over 400 yards and six touchdowns on the ground, Reed’s big-play ability was never disputed, but the offseason additions of wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver, who combined for 1,711 yards and 13 touchdowns, helped pave the way for the redshirt sophomore’s enhanced play in the pocket, finally looking like the quarterback we expected to see after an offseason where he knew he was the starter.
Marcel Reed is guaranteed to return next season, no matter how far the Aggies go in the CFP, and while OC Collin Klein is expected to take over as Kansas State’s next head coach, Reed will have a loaded wide receiver and running back room similar to this season. If the offensive line holds up, 2026 could be his best season yet.
