Former Notre Dame 5-star flip candidate trending towards hated rival

Notre Dame football had its sights set on a 5-star running back in the 2027 class, but it hasn’t turn out well for the Irish.

Kemon Spell, a 5-foot, 9-inch and 205-pound Pennsylvania star was once committed to Penn State, but after a coaching change, he reopened his recruitment. Notre Dame was a contender, but the nation’s No. 6 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings ended up committing to Georgia.

There were some rumors of his potentially flipping to the Irish, but that has cooled off, however, a new potential destination has emerged, USC. The Trojans are apparently trying hard to flip Spell from the Bulldogs according to Tom Loy of 247Sports (subscription required). His report says that “USC .. is the hot name as of late when it comes to potentially flipping the elite back.”

Loy thinks that an official visit could happen this fall, however doesn’t mention any other destinations that Spell could see. It very much looks like the Irish are officially out of the running to flip the talented back.
