Georgia's starting center out, could miss rest of the season

The Georgia Bulldogs could deal with a major absence in their offensive line during the SEC championship game and playoffs. Center Drew Bobo, the son of Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, is feared to have a season-ending foot injury, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Bobo has already been ruled out of the SEC championship game, but his absence could be extended to the College Football Playoff.

Bobo sustained the injury during the first half of the Georgia Tech game. He actually returned during the second quarter, but he didn’t play at all in the second half. He reappeared on the sidelines with a walking boot on his left foot.

“I would be speculating,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said about if Bobo’s injury will force him to miss the rest of the season. “Still don’t know, determined what we’re going to do with the injury he has. Until we determine that, I would rather not comment on it.”

Bobo also played through a hand injury against Mississippi State before sitting out in the Charlotte game. Overall, he’s started 11 of the 12 games on Georgia’s schedule, generating an overall PFF grade of 73.4 (premium subscription required) on the season. His run-blocking grade of 70.6 is best among all of Georgia’s starting lineman, and his pass-blocking grade of 77.6 is ranked third.

Georgia will be without Bobo and running back Bo Walker, who suffered a “facial fracture” after a car accident. Georgia will need some depth players to step up to finally overcome their demons against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC championship.
