Eagle football standouts Jaire Richburg and Dominque Tshiboyi signed their national letters of intent to attend and play football at the next level on Wednesday afternoon at the school.
Richburg signed with N.C. State University, and Tshiboyi signed with Cornell University.
Richburg had numerous offers from Division I schools, and his decision came down to Virginia Tech, East Carolina and N.C. State, Eagles Head Coach Todd Willert said.
“The big thing was Coach (Dave) Doeren loved his work ethic and he likes how he approaches the game. Coach Doeren doesn’t talk much, and neither does Jaire.
“Doren liked how he just goes out and takes care of business. They have a real young wide receiver group there. It is always tough to get in at that level and play right away, but their wide receiver coach loves his potential,” he said.
“Richburg played three years on the varsity team at East Forsyth and is the school’s all-time leader in receiving yards, catches and touchdowns.
“He is not the fastest or the quickest guy, but he is 6-3, 190 pounds. The biggest thing for him is the way he attacks the ball and gets it at the high point of the throw. We threw a lot of 50-50 balls to him and he usually made the catch. He was on the varsity basketball for two years here and I think making those 50-50 catches has a lot to do with his basketball rebounding. He’ll be leaving here at the end of the first semester and he’ll be with the team after their bowl game gets announced on Sunday,” Willert said.
Tshiboyi will be the first Ivy League football player for Willert, who has over 200 wins in his career as head coach for East Forsyth.
“He is a very high academic guy and he is the first Ivy League guy I’ve coached, which is kind of neat. He is a great person and has a great family. He has over a 4.0 GPA. He had numerous offers, but he committed early. He and his family took a trip to Cornell last spring and he committed then. He is very loyal to them and they are very loyal to them,” Willert said.
Tshiboyi is 6 foot 3 and 190 pounds and was a ball hawk for the Eagles on defense at free safety.
“He started for us for two years and was an eight-quarter guy for one year. He had three interceptions, and two of them were pick sixes. He also had a fumble recovery for a touchdown, He was a big playmaker for us and a team captain. This is also his third year on the varsity basketball teamm and he is one of their best players. He scores, he rebounds and he does all the other stuff, but he will just be a student and football guy at Cornell,” Willert said.
