On Sunday, the final College Football Playoff rankings of the 2025 season were revealed. After more than three months of games, we finally found out which teams will get to compete for this year’s national championship.

After finishing the regular season 9-3, USC did not make this year’s playoff. However, the Trojans were still ranked in the committee’s final top 25, coming in at No. 16.

USC was also ranked No. 16 in last week’s rankings. With the Trojans and the majority of the teams around them not playing on conference championship weekend, they did not move up or down in the top 25.

USC was the sixth team out of the field. Ahead of the Trojans among teams that missed the cut were No. 11 Notre Dame, No. 12 BYU, No. 13 Texas, No. 14 Vanderbilt, and No. 15 Utah.

USC’s final ranking is an accurate representation of how the 2025 regular season went for Lincoln Riley and the Trojans. USC improved significantly from last year, and will finish the year as a top 20 team. However, the standard is higher than that at USC, and the playoff rankings emphasize that the Trojans are not where they want to be yet in terms of establishing themselves as a program capable of contending nationally.
