Dec. 7—GRAND FORKS — UND running back Sawyer Seidl, an all-Missouri Valley Football Conference second team selection, will enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report by On3sports.
The report was posted by Seidl to his social media account.
Seidl, of Hugo, Minn., finished the season with 897 yards and 13 touchdowns. He added 19 catches for 177 yards and four touchdowns. Seidl also had a 92-yard kick return for a touchdown.
The 5-foot-10 sophomore burst out of the 2025 season with eight carries for 62 yards and two touchdowns in UND's 38-35 loss at Kansas State in the season opener.
He had his best stretch in a four-game stretch of Youngstown State, Southern Illinois, Indiana State and South Dakota. Seidl ran for at least 100 yards in all four of those games including a three-touchdown performance in a blowout win at Southern Illinois.
Seidl, along with the rest of UND's offense, sputtered down the stretch. He had 15 carries for 33 yards against South Dakota State, 14 carries for 32 yards against Tennessee Tech and eight carries for 18 yards (although two touchdowns) in the season-ending loss in the second round of the FCS Playoffs on Saturday at Tarleton State in Texas.
After playing in four games in 2023 and maintaining his redshirt status, Seidl appeared in every game as a redshirt freshman in 2024.
In 2024, Seidl ran for 494 yards and had 17 plays of more than 20 yards. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry and was named to the MVFC All-Newcomer Team.
Seidl is UND's first-known player from the 2025 team to enter the portal.
UND will lose its top two running backs from 2025 with Gaven Ziebarth closing out his career as a senior.
That leaves UND's running back depth chart inexperienced, led by Colton Brunell (53 carries, 218 yards) and Charles Langama (16 carries, 88 yards).
Brunell is a 6-foot, 200-pound redshirt freshman from Columbus, Wis., who is the only player in Wisconsin prep history to eclipse 7,000 career high school rushing yards.
Langama is a 5-9, 195-pound true freshman from Maple Grove, Minn. UND kept Langama to four games during the 2025 regular season in order to keep his redshirt status.
Langama helped Maple Grove to the Minnesota 6A state title in 2024.
