Tennessee football will search for a new defensive coordinator following the 2025 regular season. The Vols are expected to part ways with Tim Banks after five seasons.
“Tennessee and defensive coordinator Tim Banks are expected to part ways, sources tell CBS Sports,” Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports announced Monday on social media.
Banks went to Tennessee from Penn State. He served as the Nittany Lions‘ co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach from 2016-20.
Banks was Illinois’ defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach from 2012-15.
No. 23 Tennessee (8-4, 4-4 SEC) has one game remaining in its 2025 season. The Vols will play Illinois (8-4, 5-4 Big Ten) in the Liberty Mutual Music City Bowl on Dec. 30.
Kickoff between the Vols and Fighting Illini is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. The contest will be televised by ESPN.
