Notre Dame redshirt sophomore quarterback Kenny Minchey plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal after three seasons with the Fighting Irish, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned.

Minchey signed with ND in the Class of 2023 as a four-star prospect after flipping his commitment from Pittsburgh. He saw action in 10 games over his three years in South Bend, all as a reserve. Heading into the 2025 season, he battled redshirt freshman CJ Carr for the starting job, but was ultimately beaten out.

In six appearances this season, he completed 20 of 26 passes for 196 yards. He also rushed seven times for 84 yards and a touchdown.

A native of Hendersonville (Tenn.), Minchey will enter the portal as one of the most intriguing young quarterback options to hit the market. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next destination.

As a high schooler, he was the No. 171 overall prospect and No. 14 quarterback in his class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.

This breaking news story will be updated.
