Former San Angelo Lake View quarterback John David Baker will join the University of Mississippi football program as the offensive coordinator under new coach Pete Goulding, as first reported by CBS News on Tuesday.

Baker returns to the Ole Miss coaching ranks after a two-year stint as the offensive coordinator and play-caller at East Carolina University.

Before joining the Rebels coaching staff, Baker was an ascending offensive assistant at the University of North Texas and a tight-ends coach at the University of Southern California.

Baker was named the San Angelo Standard-Times All-West Texas MVP in 2008 after helping lead the Chiefs to a 6-6 record and bi-district win. He finished his senior season with 2,240 yards passing and 22 touchdowns, with 668 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns.

After graduating from Lake View, Baker redshirted as a true freshman with the Abilene Christian University football program. He was a backup for three years before becoming a starter in his redshirt senior season. During his only season as a starter, he threw for 3,376 yards and 35 touchdowns, while rushing for 256 yards and five touchdowns.

After his collegiate career, he played professional indoor football for the Amarillo Venom of the Lone Star Football League and Champions Indoor Football League in 2014 and 2015.
