BATON ROUGE – Originally, LSU and new LSU football offensive coordinator Charlies Weis Jr. agreed to a three-year, $6 million deal back on Nov. 30 as he followed new LSU coach Lane Kiffin to Baton Rouge.

But that deal has since been amended. Weis signed a new term sheet with LSU earlier this week that will now pay him $2.5 million annually, the full deal being for three-years, $7.5 million.

A copy of the new deal was included in the LSU Board of Supervisor’s agenda for its meeting Thursday, when the committee will be set to approve Weis’ new contract as well as the term sheets for eight other new assistant football coaches and staffers — including defensive coordinator Blake Baker, tight ends coach and co-offensive coordinator Joe Cox, wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator George McDonald, quarterbacks coach Dane Stevens and offensive line coach Eric Wolford.

What’s interesting about Weis’ new contract is it includes a “look-in period” clause where his compensation will be reviewed at the end of each season and “shall be adjusted, if necessary, so that (Weis’) total annual compensation for the remainder of the term of his employment exceeds the highest annual compensation for any active SEC offensive coordinator, excluding incentives.”

This clause is noteworthy as Weis is currently back in Oxford coaching Ole Miss‘ offense as it readies to start its College Football Playoff run as the No. 6 seed. The Rebels host No. 11 Tulane on Dec. 20 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Should Weis leave to take another job prior to April 1, 2026, he would be responsible for paying back LSU 300% of his salary, a term in the deal that protects LSU from Weis leaving before coaching a game at LSU, in the event it happened.

This season, LSU will have the highest paid offensive and defensive coordinators in the SEC as Baker’s new deal at three years, $9.3 million with LSU makes him among the highest paid assistant coaches in college football.
