Missouri football defensive end Zion Young was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, speeding, and a failure to properly affix a license plate to his vehicle, per Missouri State Highway Patrol arrest records.
Young, 21, was arrested at 1:40 a.m. in Boone County. He was later released on summons for the above charges.
“We are aware of the situation involving Zion Young,” Eli Drinkwitz said in a statement provided to the Columbia Daily Tribune via a team spokesperson. “We have high expectations for all of our student-athletes, on and off the field, and we will address this matter."
Young transferred to Mizzou from Michigan State ahead of the 2024 season. He was named a team captain this season and has started to receive some first-round NFL Draft buzz.
He is out of eligibility after this season. Young recently accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl and has not yet officially announced a decision on whether he will play in the Gator Bowl for the Tigers.
Young was one of the SEC’s leading edge rushers this season with 48 total quarterback pressures and eight sacks. He was named a first-team All-SEC selection by the league’s coaches on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
